Honda CR-V 2010 Review
The 2010 Honda CR-V reached the Philippine shores in February 2010 and we at WHEELSMODO were lucky to get this car for a test drive for 4 days. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) lend us the 2.0 liter variant with automatic transmission.
In a quick glance, you could notice that the 2010 CR-V is not a fully refreshed model. Meaning, it is basically the same body as the other third generation CR-V models (2007, 2008 and 2009) but with a few face-lifts here and there. Some of the face-lifts that I am saying are the new front grille, the bumper and the alloy wheels.
If you look under the hood, you will see that it still sports the same i-VTEC engine with a 2.0 liter engine displacement while higher level variants have the 2.4 liter iVTEC engine. The 2.4 liter engine produces maximum power of 170 ps/rpm while the 2.0 liter produces 150 ps/rpm.
If you are looking for fuel efficient SUV, then you should choose the 2.0 liter engine over the 2.4 liter. Here’s the fuel efficiency of the CR-V 2.4L according to EPA:
As per U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the 2010 CR-V with 2.4 liter engine has an estimated fuel efficiency rating of 27 miles per gallon (11.48 km/li) under highway condition and 21 miles per gallon (8.93 km/li) under city driving condition.
- In our 4 days of test drive, our Kilometer/Liter reading reached 10 kpl (using the fuel efficiency meter) with combined city and highway driving
Also, the CR-V is engineered to meet the stringent EURO 4 emission standard level. Philippine regulations require vehicles in the country to at least reach the EURO-2 level of the stringent European Emission Standards.
Our Take:
Looks (Exterior): 3.5 wheels out of 5 wheels
- Body: Sleek and stylish but still an old refreshed body.
- Color: The Urban Titanium color is a good color for those who are not fond of washing their cars all the time because you can barely see traces of mud and dusts when you are far away from the vehicle, unlike the white and black colors.
Looks (Interior): 4 wheels out of 5 wheels
- Spacious and luxurious looking interior. The dashboard is equipped with Honda’s new LCD panel with dual-dial meter that can show current fuel efficiency and kilometer reading. The display is very helpful to inform the driver his/her average fuel efficiency and estimated travel distance before going to the next gas station for refueling.
- It also provides maximum space for cargo. Under normal conditions, it can provide comfortable seating capacity for 5 adults. You can even seat four medium built adults in the second row and they can still sit comfortably. The leg room is very very spacious I must say.
- The seat cover is made of black gradient fabric (leather seats are available for 2.4 L variant only).
- All Power (Windows, Door Locks, Side Mirrors)
Engine and Transmission: 4 wheels out of 5 wheels
- After testing the 2.0 liter engine, we can say that it is more than enough for city driving and just right for highways.
- It is equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control. The 2.4L variant do have the REALTIME 4-Wheel Drive while the 2.0L are Front-Wheel Drive.
- We managed to test the vehicle’s speed up to 180 km/hour. In this test, we can say that it’s pretty smooth to drive under that speed while the handling is still really good.
- With overdrive switch (D3)
- Engine is very quiet
Suspension: 4 wheels out of 5 wheels
The CR-V uses the MacPherson Strut-Type Suspension with Stabilizer Bar for the front wheels while the rear has the Reactive Link Double Wishbone Suspension with Stabilizer Bar.
In action, CR-V suspension is great for mild road bumps, craters and humps.
Safety:4 wheels out of 5 wheels
Airbags for Drive and Passenger is standard through out CR-V variants. Also, it has ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution).
Pricing: (as of April 2010)

Overall WHEELSMODO grade: 4 wheels out of 5 wheels
Recommendations: If you are looking for a crossover SUV, then you should consider getting the 2010 CR-V. This car is ideal for small to medium sized families with enough leg and cargo room and fuel efficient.
Also, Honda cars are known for high resale value. If you are the kind of owner who wants a brand new car every now and then, then the CR-V is a good option.
Other considerations for a compact SUV are Toyota RAV-4 and Ford Escape, but for a more affordable option, you should also test drive new Hyundai Tucson.
Be sure to test drive before making your decision!
