Engine Care Tips: Get Iridium Spark Plugs!

iridium spark plugsIf your car doesn’t come equipped with iridium spark plugs, upgrading them will be one of the cheapest and easiest performance upgrades for your car.

Why use iridium spark plugs over the conventional platinum spark plugs? Iridium is 6 times harder, 8 times stronger, and has a melting point 1200 degrees higher than platinum. Performance enthusiasts would definitely enjoy the extra toughness!

Upgrading to iridium spark plugs will give your engine better fuel economy, increased power/acceleration and better throttle response. Iridium spark plugs should be changed regularly – every 30,000 miles for regular variants and 120,000 miles for ultra long-life variants.

An important thing to remember – you do not generally need to gap your spark plugs as they come pre-gapped from the factory.
