3rd PIMS: CAMPI Opens the Green Road

The 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) officially opened its doors to welcome all exhibitors, car enthusiasts, motorists, and car buyers last Aug 19 (Thursday) and will stretch until August 22 (Sunday) at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City.
With the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) as the event’s organizer, we can practically expect that this is the biggest motor show that will ever happen in the nation this year. But, hey! It does not stop there! The influential car manufacturers’ team organized a distinctive 1st green motor event. Honestly, this is not much of a surprise since WHEELSMODO team was invited during the announcement of CAMPI, that this year’s theme is “Drive the Green Road“.
And has this information got me? Just one word, IMPOSSIBLE!
How on earth can road transporters releasing the deadly carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen dioxide and other harmful chemicals can transform into an eco-friendly machine?
Question is how CAMPI will aggressively push for GREEN?
Grand Opening Ceremony

President Benigno Aquino III was present in the event to lead the celebration’s opening. P-Noy hailed the exemptional 37% growth for the first six months of 2010. This fact was supported by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) figures showing almost 75,000 workers employed by the auto assemblers, parts and accessories companies and car dealers .

In return, P-Noy vowed to stop smuggling in the country. Well, in this case, the government may not necessarily create a new executive order rather enforce the current law on smuggling to completely end this illegal importation.
Highlights of the PIMS
The 3rd PIMS serves as a venue for launching the new addition to some assemblers product line up like the Nissan Teana, Mitsubishi ASX, Ford Fiesta, Suzuki Kizashi, Volvo S60 and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. This is why CAMPI is confident with an 11% 2010 sales growth. In addition to their new line ups, each car assembler also showcase the venue with latest green technologies, concept cars, hybrids, electric cars and fuel efficient engines! And a hall has been set up by technical team of CAMPI to hold the efficient engines.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. amazed visitors as they did not actually present a new model but showed everyone a new concept of technology that is at the same time in harmony with environment. The U3-X is a compact device that fits the rider’s legs letting you move to all directions!
Using the “My Ride + Earth” advocacy, CAMPI intended to increase the public awareness on establishing an eco-driven motoring. CAMPI even managed to secure partnership with World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) strengthening the green theme. With the help of the Green Motoring Guide, motorists have a reference to slow down global warming. The said booklet is available near the ticket booth for free! Anyhow, its not just the machine that counts, it’s the proper caring and cleaning of your car’s engine.
There is also “More Smiles, Less Piles” program encouraging the youth to donate their toys to less fortunate kids. While Motolite had a “Balik Baterya program” to let visitors donate their old batteries. I must say that through this, CAMPI is on the right track. And with motorists right amount of discipline, this nationwide advocacy can make a better world to live in. All in all, the 15,000 square meters venue displays more than hundred vehicles from 20 brands. A must see to everyone!
